Veggie Heaven, Teaneck, NJ

Veggie Heaven in Teaneck, NJ has been a reliable and fun “go to” restaurant for years. Two of the most comforting parts about dining at Veggie Heaven is their complimentary hot tea, and knowing that all of their tofu is Non-GMO. This may not seem like a big deal, but I continue to be amazed by how many restaurants fail to recognize the health risks of consuming GMO products (Click here to learn more about the dangers of glyphosate). I started with the Spinach with Tofu soup which is always excellent, and added the Vegan Chicken Nuggets (I rarely get to have deep fried food), and Spicy Singapore Chow Mee Fun (noodles). The fried food was fun and would satisfy even the most picky teenage customer, and even though the Singapore Noodles dish was short on vegetables, the cook still nailed the spicy flavors (during my next visit, I will ask for a ton of steamed veggies to be added to the plate as well). My dining partners had the Yam fries (all of Veggie Heaven’s dipping sauces are exceptional), Miso Soup, Crispy Tofu Twin Delight, and the Crispy Vegan Beef with Honey Walnut sauce. They enjoyed each selection, except for the vegan beef dish, which my non-vegan friend said was a bit disappointing. We topped the dinner off with vegan, gluten-free coconut cupcakes which exceeded my expectations. They are indeed as good as they look! 🙂

I also had the great pleasure of meeting Joey, Gary, and other members of the Veggie Heaven team. Gary is the owner, and when his Dad started managing multiple Chinese restaurants, his Mom, who was Buddhist, wanted to open a vegan restaurant to accommodate people’s dietary needs (plant-based, non-GMO, gluten free, etc.), and voila, Veggie Heaven was born! Gary’s siblings also own the Veggie Heaven restaurants in Montclair, and Denville (each menu is a little different but equally appetizing).

Incidentally, if you didn’t already know, fake meat is believed to have been created centuries ago by Buddhist Monks who, in an effort to accommodate their meat eating guests, developed an amazing variety of plant-based options.

The bottom line on Veggie Heaven in Teaneck, NJ?  A strong thumbs up, and a heartfelt thank you to Gary’s Mom, and the entire crew at Veggie Heaven! We will be back for sure. 🙂
