The United States is the wealthiest country in the world, and yet 1 in 4 children lack access to enough food for a healthy life (800 million people in the world suffer from hunger or malnutrition). 1 in 4. This is insanity. It takes 10-14 times more resources to produce a pound of meat-based protein than a pound of plant based protein, and producing a pound of beef requires about 2,500 gallons of water (a pound of potatoes uses about 40). And oh yeah, animal based products are linked with higher rates of disease across the board (heart disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma, etc). Please go vegan for everyone’s health, the animals, and our only planet. Together, we can help stop the insanity.
Democracy Now!: “Feeding America predicts more than 50 million people in the country could experience food insecurity before the end of the year — including one in four children.”
Ricardo Salvador: “And so, there are two ways that you don’t have access to food. One is the one that I just described, physical access. And I’ve given you an example of a place where a decision is made by people — let’s go to war, and let’s specifically disrupt the food system of Yemen so that it can be vulnerable and we can win the war there — so, an intentional act. Or the other way that you can not have access is because you don’t have the capital, you don’t have the cash. And so, the fundamental thing to remember always in these situations is you must provide access so that people can actually meet their own needs in one of those two ways.”
David Beasley of the Nobel Peace Prize winning “World Food Programme”: “I have had Covid-19 and I can certainly appreciate how it has become a preoccupation, even an obsession for many. Times are tougher now than at any point in most of our lifetimes, but there are still those starving Yemeni children and millions of others. Last year hunger and malnutrition claimed twice as many children’s lives as Covid-19 has claimed worldwide so far – more than 3 million.”
